- Christmas Dinner 2011 - Wow! What a fantastic evening, and a wonderful way to celebrate the new home of the Dewsbury Rockers. Clare and the team at The Swan, Liversedge, put on a fabulous 4 course meal and evening entertainment for approximately 30 of us. We're all looking forward to 2012 with a number of rides out and social events already planned - friends old and new are all welcome. Click here to see photos of the Christmas Dinner 2011
- Seahouses 2011 - Neither Friday the 13th or the promise of inclement weather could dampen the spirits of the 21 assembled Old Rockers. After a hearty breakfast in the California the time came to mount our trusty steeds, so with a loud click of arthritic hips, various ooooh’s and aargh’s of bad legs and backs, the smell of Algipan, Fiery Jack and Lineament Oil replacing the smell of Castrol R we headed north to our first stop at Leamington Bar. Here we were met by another old boy who now runs a pub nearby – Banti. After dismounting to stretch our legs most gave the tea and coffee a miss at this point, you know how bladders get! Anyway off we went in 2 groups, one group went the A1 route the others decided on the A68 route. We all made Seahouses by 3.30 and gathered on the Seafront. Then we rode on to the accommodation at Springhouse Farm. It was beautiful over looking the sea on one side with the castle in front. We soon settled into our rooms, had a couple of hours relaxing after the 176 mile ride. The taxi arrived to take us all into town for food and drink. We found a great pub that sold real ales and our resident comedian kept the locals entertained with jokes that dated back to when Triumph only made brassieres and filing cabinets! A good night was had by all – and then to bed.
Saturday morning, breakfast and then away for a ride out into the borders. The exuberance of youth was shown to us by our youngest member (excellent) then 134 miles later back to the accommodation for the F.A Cup and a barbecue cooked inside – more drinks as one by one tired, grumpy old guys went to bed.
Next morning we were up early for breakfast then set off home. We all arrived home by 13.00, all back safely with no mishaps whatsoever. With the average age of about 50 that amounts to 700 years experience. A buffet lunch was provided at the Swan and that was it for this year 488 miles, £52 petrol and a sore arse, but great fun.
Thanks to everyone who had any part in the planning, however small – looking forward to next year’s trip. Why not join us?
“A splendid time is guaranteed for all”
- Christmas Dinner 2010 - 20 Dewsbury Rockers and their partners had a fabulous meal at the Royal Oak, Shawcross, Dewsbury. It was a great evening and we were well looked after. It was nice to see old friends and welcome some new faces to the group. Another successful social event, and a great start to 2011. Plans are well underway for the next trip in May. - Jodrell Bank, August 2010 - On Sunday 22nd August, 10 bikes met in Birstall market place for a trip organised by Martin Proctor to Jodrell Bank. The weather was warm and fine, and we went via Holmfirth, Glossop and the High Peaks. We arrived at Jodrell Bank around midday after a stop for brunch.
After a wander around the visitors centre, and a walk around the telescope itself (a very impressive engineering structure), we returned home via Macclesfield, Glossop and the Snake Pass. After passing Lady Bower reservoir, we turned off onto the Strines - an interesting little road to say the least! We then stopped in Penistone for a drink before returning home.
- The Lakes, May 2010 - On Friday 14th of May at about 10.30am, 26 bikers of various vintage (1942 through to modern 1987) left The California Inn after a 'full monty' English breakfast, en route for a Hostel in Grasmere in the Lake District, for 3 days of riding, eating and merriment. The 7 different makes of bike, were not of such early vintage as the riders: 1959 through to 2009, spanning 50 years of manufacture.
The route went north on back roads to Ripon, but plans then went awry, GPS error and A1 road works, took us to Scotch Corner Café where we had a welcome cuppa and bun. Two riders returned home from here and the other 24 continued west over the north Pennines, via Barnard Castle to Alston, then Penrith and south to Grasmere. This was a good 140 mile ride, and the pie and pea supper at the Hostel was much appreciated!
We left the Hostel about 9.30am on Saturday and rode north to Carlisle and Alston, then over moors to Hartside Café on the summit. Superb bendy roads and fantastic views (if you had time to look!) the descent was even more exciting with some good roads and hair-pin bends, onto Penrith, then south to the digs – 120 miles. A great BBQ and a few beers followed, arranged and presided over by Paul, the trip organiser (thanks Paul).
On Sunday morning, we packed our gear onto the bikes (or Fozzy’s car) and left to head homewards through Kendal and Sedbergh to Hawes where we had breakfast, at this ‘mecca’ of motor-cycling. On home via Ripon for a short stop, and then on through Harrogate, back to the California Inn, arriving there about 4.00pm. Thanks to the staff at the California for putting on Sandwiches!
Sunday mileage was about 110, giving a total of 370 over the three days. Thanks guys for helping an old-timer like me along! (but, there’s some only a few years behind me!). Bob F. (Grandad) Click here to see photos of the 2010 Lakes trip
- Butlins, April 2010 - Five members of the club plus their partners/wives went to the MCN yearly bash at Butlins. Five bikes set off on the Friday morning followed by one car with the five females of the group and all the luggage. The journey down was made in about three hours including two stops for coffee and use of the loo, the weather was good with no rain at all during the journey. On arrival at the venue we had to wait a short while before we could get into the self catering accomodation, we used this time to have a quick look around Butlins and find out where everything was ready for going out that night and stocking up on food from the camp supermarket.
On the Saturday we decided not to go on the MCN ride out but stayed on camp all day having a good look around the trade stands and visiting the various stunt shows and the wall of death which was brilliant. Saturday night was the traditional fancy dress party night but we did not participate in dressing up (although some people might not have agreed) but we had a great night watching the other people who had dressed up, there was some really good costumes and people had obviously been planning this for months.
On the Sunday morning we decided to go to the market at Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells so we all jumped on the small train at Butlins gate and travelled down the promenade to the venue, whilst we were there the weather changed and we all got wet during a heavy downpour of rain while we looked round the market. We then had lunch before setting off back to Butlins, while we had been gone the train driver had decided to call it a day because of the rain and had gone home early leaving us all to walk back up the sea front to Butlins. The rest of the day was spent on camp having a last look around the trade stands and stunt shows, that evening we all went to the Sun & Moon on site pub where we had a meal before going on the the nights entertainment.
On the Monday morning we all packed our bags and loaded the car then set off home about 10.30, once again the weather was good for the journey, we had two stops on the way home first at the Willingham Woods biker café near Market Rasen and then again at the Blyth service area on th A1. Everyone had a great weekend and we all agreed that we would consider going to Butlins again next year. Click here to see photos of the 2010 Butlins trip
- Ace Cafe Reunion and Brighton Burn Up weekend, September 2009 - 10 members of the group travelled down to Brighton for the weekend, some by van and motorhome with four riding down on their Motor Cycles. Most people travelled on the Friday leaving from Robin Hood watersports centre in the morning and arriving at the Hotel in Brighton late afternoon. Five members of the group stayed at the Downes Hotel with the others staying at a local camp site in their motor homes.
On the Saturday morning we all met up on Brighton sea front where an organised Car / Bike Sprint event was being held along the Madeira Drive, after observing the event for a short while we all set off on our bikes for a ride out in the local area and having lunch in Eastbourne. On the way back from Eastbourne we called at the Beachy Head cliff tops for a look at the scenery up there (nobody tried to jump off the cliffs today). We then headed back to Brighton after arranging to have a barbecue at Paul's motorhome that evening, the evening went well with everyone being well fed and watered as the night progressed.
On the Sunday morning we all met up at the camp site before setting off to the Brighton Burn Up event which was organised by the Ace Café in London, on arrival at the Brighton sea front we were amazed by the number of motorcycles that had turned out for the event. The bikes attending were parked the full length of the Maderia Drive in four separate rows with allocated space for the motorcycles to leave without being blocked in - we were parked approximately half way along the Drive and it was only 10.30 in the morning.
The bikes that could not get into the Maderia Drive area were parked on all the surrounding streets for a vast area of the town, it was impossible to estimate how many bikes were there but it was certainly in the thousands rather than hundreds (see the photos and judge for yourselves). After walking around all the trade stands and admiring all the bikes parked up for most of the day we then went back to the Hotel to change then five of us went for a ride around the local countryside and venturing through some great country roads in the Ashdown Forest before returning to the Hotel.
That evening we all met up in a local Hotel in Rottingdean for an evening meal together. On the Monday morning we had breakfast then three bikes set of for home mid morning with some of the others having a weeks holiday travelling along the south coast.
The three bikes arrived back home in the late afternoon after an uneventfull journey on the motorways home. Click here to see photos of the Brighton Burn Up weekend 2009
- Scarborough 40th Anniversary Trip, September 2009 - Sunday 6th September we headed out to Scarborough on the 40th anniversary of a similar trip we did in 1969. The meeting point was Spittal Farm Craft Centre about 4 miles outside of Scarborough. We were expecting around 35 bikes, however, 63 bikes left Spittal Farm in convoy about 12:45, and when we arrived on the front at Scarborough there were 65 bikes in total. Scarborough Council did a fantastic job of letting us park up and take photo’s, later allowing us to use the pavement outside Café Columbus, suspending a number of parking bays and reserving them for our sole use. Friends were re-acquainted and new friendships formed, a fabulous day was had by all. Thanks to all who turned up and especially to the guys who organised the trip. - Barton upon Humber Bike Night, July 2009 - 14 bikes set off from Birstall market place, the weather stayed fine and a good time was had by all!
- The Lakes, May 2009 - We left on the Friday morning in the pouring rain (after a fabulous breakfast at the California Inn). Unfortunately it continued to rain all the way up there. The drying room at the hostel saved the weekend and despite the adverse weather everyone was in high spirits (later in the evening even higher spirits!). Saturday started with light rain but fined up later. The ride through Kirkstone Pass and Honister Pass was about two and a half hours long on excellent biking roads with spectacular scenery. We then did the Brewery Tour at Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth. The journey back to the Hostel was via the Winnlatter Pass and the day culminated with a BBQ and a good night was had by all. We returned home on the Sunday via Kendall, Hawes and Ripon, back to the California Inn, where sandwiches etc were waiting for us.

- Eden Camp, September 2008 - 24 bikes set off from Birstall Market Place on a chilly Sunday morning. Most of us avoided the main A64 route and regrouped at the Highwayman Cafe just outside York. We then went onto Malton via the grounds of Castle Howard and on to Eden Camp. After about 3 and a half hours at Eden Camp we headed over the North Yorks Moors to Whitby. We had a couple of hours in Whitby then headed home finishing at the Old Hall for a quick one! Overall the trip went very well and the sun did shine for a short while. Thanks to everyone who rode out. Click here to see photos of the Eden Camp trip
- Sunday 10th August 2008 - Whitley Bay Festival of Motorcycles - 10 of us left Birstall 7:30am - (4 had gone up on Saturday). By the time we got to Ripon it was raining, and it rained on & off all the way up! We stopped for breakfast at the Wear View Cafe at Toft Hill and re-grouped. We then carried on to Whitley Bay where we met up with the others. Unfortunately the weather had spoilt the show, a number of the Trade stands hadn't turned up and the field was very wet and therefore affected the planned demonstrations. We headed for home about 14:30 (once again in the rain!), stopped in Ripon for coffee by which time it was almost dry! ! A disappointing trip but a big thank you to all who made the effort.......IT WAS WET! Click here to see photos of the Whitley Bay trip
- Barton upon Humber Bike Night, July 2008 - We set off from Birstall Market Place on a rather damp afternoon but the road was quickly drying by the time we reached the M62. Secure parking had been arranged at Barton Fire Station so we were able to leave our gear. The town was filled with thousands of bikes of every possible description. Early evening the rain started so we headed for home... or rather back to the Old Hall in Heckmondwike to finish of the day. A good time was had by all. - Falkirk Wheel, May 2006 - The first trip organised from the Old Hall, Heckmondwike. 14 bikes went to Scotland to admire the engineering of the Falkirk Wheel used to lift canal boats from one level to another. Click here to see photos of the Falkirk trip
